Mission and Core Values

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

The MISSION of C.O.O.L. (our purpose, why we exist):

C.O.O.L. exists to partner with the Body of Christ to facilitate physical and spiritual impact in our communities.  Our aim is to see transformation happen in the lives of those who serve and are being served through the various C.O.O.L. Day projects.

  1. C.O.O.L. is a tool

  • to serve one another in a spirit of unity,
  • to experience the joy of giving and the discovery of the many gifts in the Body of Christ,
  • to have the opportunity to display God’s love and care to those beyond our own church buildings.
  1. C.O.O.L. is a bridge

  • to reach out into our communities,
  • to dispel denominational and cultural differences for the sake of loving relationships,
  • to have a means of serving and giving to those in need,
  • to maintain an ongoing Christian presence in the community.
  1. C.O.O.L. is a platform

  • to represent Jesus through love and practical service,
  • to make Him known through the message of the Gospel.

The VISION of C.O.O.L. (how we intend to carry out the mission, what God has put in our mind’s eye for this ministry):

1. The C.O.O.L. Day Project is a catalyst to bring together the whole community (churches, businesses, community groups, government entities, etc.) with the intention of expressing the heart of God through relationship and acts of service.  This is accomplished in a local setting, with unity of purpose, for the people we serve.

2. Our outreach is done in a relational context.  C.O.O.L. Day is not merely a neighborhood beautification project; it is motivated by the truest sense of giving to bless another person, expecting nothing in return.  If we are not touching people's lives, we are not fulfilling our mission.  C.O.O.L. Day is an opportunity to build bridges of relationship that will continue to be nurtured by the presence of the local churches in the community.

3. C.O.O.L. Day is an act of service that demonstrates the unconditional display of God's love.  We expect no payment.  We seek no reward or service in return.  God's love is a gift to all, showing no partiality; we serve in the same manner.  The most basic truth that people need to know is that God loves them.  We serve with the aim to communicate this in practical ways.

The SCOPE of C.O.O.L. (the extent of our activity and influence, who we want to reach):

The scope of C.O.O.L. is guided by these principles:

  1. As we pray and ask God for direction, He leads.  Our outreach will always be a result of “listening prayer”.
  2. We desire to cultivate a sense of "ownership" amongst our volunteers; encouraging community members to reach out to those that live in their own sphere of influence.
  3. The annual C.O.O.L. Day Project is a local ministry that we believe will eventually have a national impact.  We plan and pray with the goal of multiplying the ministry.

Our CORE VALUES (what we will live, what we believe in relation to the ministry, the foundation upon which the ministry is built):

  • Jesus is preeminent.  His Lordship and our love for Him are the motivation of our ministry.

“He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me.” – John 14:21

  • Doing flows from being.  Our service to God is the overflow of our love for Him.  We see the discipleship process as integral to our ability to love and serve well.  We always endeavor to nurture our relationship with Jesus, that our lives may be an effortless outreach to those around us.

“Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”  - Proverbs 4:23

  • Unity in community  - The uniqueness of C.O.O.L. is the opportunity for Christians to come together to serve, regardless of church denomination.  We lay our differences aside to fulfill God’s commandment to love one another.  It is this unity that impacts our communities.

“...make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose."  - Philippians 2:2

  • Prayer and intercession – Prayer is the vehicle through which God gives us direction and equips us to carry out His will.  We listen and obey.  We believe intercession precedes and sustains fruitful ministry.

“The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”  James 5:16

  • Giving financially from a heart of “investment” – We are humbly grateful for the people who give to this ministry.  That giving takes on deeper meaning when expressed from a heart of support and investment in the vision of what God is doing through C.O.O.L.  We pray that those who give will truly sense the partnership we share in advancing God’s Kingdom.  This is so important to us!

“Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.”  2 Corinthians 9:7

  • Wholehearted service – Our service is the demonstration of our faith; therefore, we aim to do all things with the goal of excellence, as unto the Lord.

"Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance.  It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”  Colossians 3:23-24

  • Ministry focus = Valuing people – The C.O.O.L. Day project is a tangible expression of God's extravagant heart of love for all people.  He has deemed every person valuable, as expressed in the beauty of His sacrifice on the cross for all mankind.  We approach our projects upholding the value of each person we serve.

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma."  Eph. 5:1-2

  • God’s ownership of the ministry – C.O.O.L. belongs to Him.  We merely steward His vision for this ministry, keeping a loose grasp on all things, and allowing Him to direct our hearts as we follow His vision. As a result, we will see Him exalted, and not the ministry.

“He must increase, but I must decrease.”  John 3:30

  • Integrity – Integrity is a vital aspect of our character that assures others we are faithful and trustworthy.  We desire for the C.O.O.L. ministry to be above reproach - handling all things in honesty, respect, and with good reputation.

“O LORD, who may abide in Thy tent?  Who may dwell on Thy holy hill?  He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart.”  Psalm 15:1-2

"My family and I had the privilege of participating in C.O.O.L. Project 2013.  In ONE DAY, over 1700 volunteers renovated an entire neighborhood!  Painting, carpentry, concrete, landscaping, siding, etc.  Dozens of churches from dozens of Christian denominations all pulled together to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a community (FREE).  It was like nothing I had ever seen before.  God truly showed up! Thank you to all of God's servants who gave of their time and did such a terrific job.  Jesus Christ was greatly glorified!  Only eternity will reveal the total impact of this ministry event."
